Hitachi 1TB SATA Harddisk

Hard disk Model:
HITACHI Deskstar 7K1000 HDS721010KLA330 (0A35155) 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM
'HITACHI
Pros: High capacity for relatively low price
Cons: 1. As of now my machine never goes into standby mode anymore. I hear it (the computer) cycle down the main drive and attempt to cycle down the Hitachi, but then the Hitachi drive spins back up right away.

I downloaded a piece of software from Hitachi that let's you change the APM (advanced power management) settings of the drive, It comes factory set to "disabled", but none of the other settings work any better.

2. This drive seems to get tangled up in temporary
USB connections (e.g. memory stick, MP3) and then when you 'safely shutdown' the USB device the computer loses all visibility to the Hitachi. Only a power off reset clears this. What the heck?
Other Thoughts: Content on selling page should stress this is OEM - no SATA data cable and unformatted, no instructions of any kind in the package.

We need to leave the computer on all the time because of Media Center needing to wake up and record shows, but now this drive refuses to go into standby mode, spinning all the time - very frustrating. It worked perfectly with just the boot drive.

Loss of drive visibility when USB devices are removed is maddening.
